So, Kat (my wife) and I went to the movies last night. Afterwards, we were commenting on new 25% SF municipal parking tax, making what was used to be a $4 parkign ticket $5. We think this is new for the new year. Luckily, it's isolated to parking, it's not like we have the VAT in Europe (15 - 20% tax I believe, why all items say "including VAT." Would you want to go to the counter and deal with a sudden 20% markup @ the register? That would piss me off to no end.)

So, we were having one of those old fogey "everything's so expensive these days! Back in my day..." banters. She pointed out that she'll never call going to the movies a cheap date again. Check it out. ost that may incur during a movie date for 2:

Tix * 2 = $19
Snackies (popcorn, icee, candy)= $12
Arcade games = $5
Parking = $5

Est. Total = $40

Roughly $20 a person just for movies. Hollywood's cinema industry is quickly becoming as much to do as it is to purchase a DVD. No one is going to ever want to go the theatres the day movies cost $16 bucks/person.

When I was a wee lad of 16, I think the costs for a movie was @ about $10 - $12/person. Sadly, I think back then $20 was still felt rather weight financially. Noadays, ugh.. nevermind.... I wish I could stare at the $20 bill in my wallet and go "Whoa!" instead of "*sigh*"

Nevertheless, it's almost cheaper to go to dinner than the movies, taking date-related-ROI into consideration
