So, on 5/26, to fly there with one stopover is $1436, returning on 6/1.

Two stop overs is $1188.

If you were in my shoes, would you pay the extra $248 to avoid hopping around too much? I mean, we're already pretty fucking north of $1000 with hotel (I found something for $65/night..need to investigte European travel web sites...the event has campground access for those who care to...but..um..err..I dunno...Dieses ist nicht Burning Man!) so would the extra $$ be well spent in travel comfort? Or should I not act so spoiled and take the 2-stopover plan.

Another idea (by way of [livejournal.com profile] rezendiwould be to go to London and take Ryanair to Leipzig. I would have to spend a day in London to and from, though. I could stay at the Regency Palace for $76/night each time...it is a 2-star though...does that gurantee running hot water?) That $$$ break down is:

1. SFO - LHR = $560 R/T
2. 2 nights in London - $152
3. Ryanair STN - AOC - $60 R/T

TCT (Total Cost of Trip) = $772. Granted, being in Picadilly, I'd have enough time to by Absinthe et al. I do wonder, since RyanAir is a Low Cost Airline™, if it's one of those airlines Switzerland doesn't even allow in its airspace because of a poor safety record. They don't fly into Switzerland, it seems.

If I add $321, I can fly on "safely" Lufthansa, bringing the total to $1093...which is $95 less than flying on the 2-stopper directly to Leipzig...

Scheiße! Here we go again...

Maybe I should make it a real adventure & go to Oslo while I'm out there and crash @ [livejournal.com profile] dichroicynosure's place and check out that part of the world for a few days. Maybe she can make me into a black-death-metal boi, since it appears some women seem to be rather attracted to those types.

(The Oslo bit would be with [livejournal.com profile] dichroicynosure's permission, of course. :) )

I have no advice re accomodations in London or whether you want to stay there at all. But I wouldn't worry too much about Ryanair; it's Europe's biggest airline by market value, and they fly 15 million people a year. I've flown them myself, and they're no-frills, but they get you there. Sorta like Southwest.

FWIW... my impoverished ass doesn't mind reading about your plans for what to do with your piles of well-earned cash. But I have little useful advice to give.

I suppose my feeling is, if you're goin from here to Europe, ad you've alrady got a layover, then you're already looking at a hell of a trip, and adding another layover to it doesn't seem to make it noticeably more hellish. So if it saves you nearly $250, I'd figure it's worth it. That's two hundred and fifty more devalued American dollars you'll have to spend in duty-free shops and ski-chalet cafés.

My advice: take a pit-stop in Bavaria, see this, ski the alps, eat lots of cheese and drink lots of beer.

WOW!! Yes, come my way! I would love to play hostess for you. I meant to tell you about Ryanair as I use them all the time to get to Frankfurt. What are you doing in Leipzig?? If you are there in June, you might as well stick around for the Wave Gotik Treffen(Music) festival. I might go myself depending on where I am at with my thesis. What are you doing for this trip? (I´ll catch up on your recent entries and see for myself)--but yes, you are welcome to come up to Oslo--Ryanair flies there from London (Stansted).
