I agree, middle America is republican. Hell, anything east of Concord is GOP territory, IMO. However, it seems though middle America still has a problem with Americans of recent immigrant decent (moi) as well as signs of racism towards African Americans, any one of many Native American Nations, and women. Why do I say that? Well, I do occasionally get racially judged in *gasp* San Fran-fuckin-cisco. Not that I let it bother me too much. My point is that it seems other "topics of social acceptance" have yet to be fully realized in the entire U.S. and I don't think the GOP should be considered the point person on the charge towards unconditional acceptance.
Some people still have a problem with women in the workforce. (I've encountered such types, they exist.)
